Mission & Vision

Working together to create a thriving community in Northwestern Pennsylvania where every identity is seen, valued, affirmed, and celebrated.

Queerly Beloved - Honoring Our History

In 1966, a group of gender-expansive people at Compton’s Cafeteria in San Francisco stood up after facing repeated harassment from authorities. They resisted that unjust treatment and made history.

This moment became known as the Compton’s Cafeteria Riot. It is one of the earliest turning points in the Queer Rights movement, with Stonewall following three years later.

Compton’s Table is named in honor of that history and the people who made it.

We are grateful for their courage; for every coffee cup thrown and every table flipped. Because of their bravery, our community is able to live in the world more openly and fully than generations before us.

We carry that courage forward as we continue the work of creating spaces where people can show up as they are, find community, and thrive.

“At Compton's Table, we imagine a region where queer folx are welcomed to show up as their whole selves.”
